The National Physical Activity Plan Alliance loses one of its founders.
The National Physical Activity Plan Alliance has lost one of its founders, and the physical activity community is now without one of its most creative, energetic, and effective public health leaders. Antronette (Toni) Yancey, a professor at UCLA, lost her battle with cancer on April 24, 2013. She was a member of the small group that initiated the process that led to development of the National Physical Activity Plan (NPAP). She was instrumental in development of the Plan, chairing a group that reviewed drafts of the NPAP to insure that proper attention was given to reduction of disparities in physical activity across racial, ethnic, gender, and geographic groups. She served as a member of NPAP Coordinating Committee and as a member of the NPAP Alliance’s Board of Directors. Toni Yancey was a wonderful person and a powerful advocate for the role of physical activity in public health. She will be deeply missed by everyone associated with the NPAP.
